20 Years of Sebastian Fitzek: A Day at the Cinema

Ziegler Film invited us to the Filmkunst 66 in Berlin for the anniversary of the Fitzek adaptations. All the films in one day, plus readings, Q&As and the first three episodes of "Therapie".

I. Twenty years of adaptations

At the weekend Jakob Hermann Hähner and Johannes Fielers were in Berlin to celebrate the anniversary of the Fitzek adaptations with Ziegler Film. Twenty years, and marked with a day at the cinema rather than a stage and confetti. The screenings were at the Filmkunst 66, a cinema of a kind you hardly find any more: a sign out on the pavement, display cases with posters, a beer stand right next door. Not a multiplex, but a house that puts up its own programme.

II. All the films in one day

The programme ran every one of the adaptations across several screenings, with readings and Q&As by Sebastian Fitzek in between. That is a format you rarely get. Not one film with a talk afterwards, but a whole body of work back to back, with the author in the building. Meeting him in person was a real pleasure. The rollup in the foyer already carried the next dates, the anniversary shows at the Waldbühne in August.

III. Three episodes of “Therapie”

Afterwards we got to watch three episodes of the series “Therapie”, and we were taken with it. The best part was seeing Regina Ziegler and Markus Olpp again, both just back from Cannes. In the evening it was back to Hamburg, after a day that felt more like a visit than an appointment.

Thanks to the team at Ziegler Film for organising the day and for the invitation.
